2022 Trip Highlights

I was trying to create a highlight reel for the 2022 season, and there were just so many moments to choose from and share, I just couldn’t decide. So I figured the best thing to do was to highlight some of the moments that stood out for us this year. Every trip we offer is special and amazing each in it’s own way. Sadly I did not record everything, and now as I go through footage from the 2022 season, I wish I had spent more time creating videos, but sometimes I just get caught up in the craziness and I forget to turn on that video recorder.

I try to be present and enjoy where I am at, where ever we go, but I always remember that our job is to document the adventure. The land stuff, the ocean stuff. All these places we visit are where dreams come true. So for 2022 I thought would try something different and put together a page to share some of these moments with you all (the ones that I remembered to document)… we hope you enjoy.

GREY WHALE EXPEDITION
February 6 - 11, 2022

One of the first trips of the season is our grey whale expedition. This is probably our most under rated trip that we offer, because there is more topside action on the boat vs. swimming with the animals. It is not legal to swim with grey whales in the Bay, but the magic of this trip is not swimming with these big beauties, it’s in playing with them.

Grey whales love interaction from humans. They come up to the boats and ask for face rubs and will just hover there, allowing people to pet them, over and over again. It truly is one of the greatest experiences you will ever have with a wild animal.

We do sometimes venture out into the open ocean to see if there is anything going on, and off the coast of Baja there usually is. On our first day of the trip we found a few baitballs with a superpod of common dolphins attacking it, along with a few friendly sea lions. Overall it was a hell of a first day at sea. A big thanks go out to our friends who joined us for this special trip. Thanks to Maritza M, and LB Helfrich for the video clips I used in this reel.

ORCA and MOBULA RAY EXPEDITION
May 2022

During our May orca and mobula ray trip we encountered a massive mating ball of mobulas. We always see mobula rays on these trips. It is common to see big schools of them, but it is extra special when they are in full mating behavior and just completely ignore everything around them and are fully focused on finding a mate. This encounter was extra special and a day I will not soon forget.

PINK RIVER DOLPHINS
September 17 - 19, 2022

We visited the Amazon River for an opportunity to film and photograph the very rare pink river dolphins, which the locals call Botos. They are magical animals that live exclusively in this river basin and I am happy to report that this exploratory trip was beyond words - Epic As (censored word).

I had been dreaming of photographing this Iconic animal for years, and finally took the time to do it, when we went to Brazil for our jaguar expedition and anaconda diving trip.

The area we visited is way off the beaten path and I was really not sure what to expect. To be honest I was thinking it was going to be some sort of tourist trap. The encounters are designed for tourists, but what we experienced was so much richer than the average encounters they offer with the animals. It exceeded my wildest dreams with these animals, I can’t wait to go back.
