EPISODES 67 - 77
This season in Baja has been incredible, but rather than posting every single day, I decided to share a few select days from each week to give you a better feel for the highs, lows, surprises, and unforgettable moments that make these expeditions so special…
Hope you enjoy!
Wild Minute #67. Week 1, Day 3
After spending time with sperm whales the day before, Day 3 brought us another incredible encounter with one of Baja's ocean giants.
Today it was pilot whales.
These highly social animals are always a welcome sight, and watching them move through the blue waters of Baja is a reminder of just how rich this ecosystem truly is. While many people come here hoping for orcas, it's often the unexpected encounters that make the strongest memories.
Wild Minute Episode 68. Week 1, Day 4.
Not every day in Baja is spent chasing whales and dolphins. On this day, rough seas forced us to stay closer to shore, so we headed to a place known as Puffer Cove. What we found was hundreds of curious puffer fish cruising the shallows around us. Sometimes the ocean has other plans, and those unexpected moments often turn into some of the most fun encounters of the trip. While we waited for calmer seas, we spent the day surrounded by these comical little fish, enjoying a different side of Baja's incredible marine life.
Wild Minute Episode 69. week 1, Day 6.
We wrapped up the week with encounters with both pilot whales and sperm whales, a fitting end to an incredible adventure in Baja. While the orcas never made an appearance this week, the ocean still delivered unforgettable wildlife experiences day after day. From dolphins and mobulas to pilot whales and giant sperm whales, it was a reminder that success in Baja isn't measured by a single species. The wildlife here is always full of surprises, and this week was no exception.
Wild Minute Episode 70. Week 2, Day 1.
The One That Got Away.
We headed south, hoping to find orcas, only to learn they had been spotted in the north. By the time we finally caught up with one late in the day, the calm morning seas had given way to rough, choppy conditions. We managed only a brief glimpse from the surface before it slipped away, making it clear it wasn't interested in an encounter. Rather than force an encounter, we left it alone and let it continue on its way. Not every day ends with an incredible interaction, but every day on the ocean teaches us something… and today was a lesson in patience, respect, and just how unpredictable wild orcas can be.
Wild Minute Episode 71. Week 2, Day 2.
Making the Best of the Day.
Strong winds limited how far we could search for wildlife today, so rather than spend the day battling rough conditions, we changed our plan and headed to La Reina. Even with the lumpy seas, the dives turned out to be a lot of fun, reminding us that a change of plans can still lead to a great day on the water. As the afternoon came to a close, we were treated to a beautiful sight, a humpback whale mother and her calf splashing, playing, and enjoying the calm moments together. It was the perfect way to end another day in Baja, proving that the ocean always has something special waiting if you're willing to adapt.
Wild Minute Episode 72. Week 2, Day 4.
We Found the Magic.
After several days of searching, today everything finally came together. We found the orcas on day four! We slipped into the water several times for some incredible encounters. There weren't a lot of jumps, but every one of them counted, giving us those unforgettable moments we travel halfway around the world to experience. We also witnessed the pod hunting and killing a sea turtle. Watching such raw, natural behavior is never easy, but it's part of the wild world we come here to experience and respect. The time we spent with the orcas was simply incredible. It was one of those days that reminds you why you endure the long searches, changing conditions, and uncertainty. Today, we found the magic, and it was a great day at sea.
Wild Minute Episode 73. Week 3, Day 2.
The Perfect Start.
We found the orcas on our second day at sea. Jump after jump, they gave us unforgettable moments in the water, allowing everyone to experience the magic of swimming alongside wild orcas in their natural home. There are days when everything just seems to come together, and today was one of those days. The encounters were relaxed, playful, and filled with those quiet moments that leave a lasting impression long after you climb back into the boat. It was a dream experience for everyone who joined us and the perfect way to begin another incredible week in Baja.
Wild Minute Episode 74. Week 3, Day 6.
Ending with a Bang.
What a way to finish week three! We found the orcas. We had the incredible privilege of spending nearly the entire day in their company. Just us, a few good friends, and a pod of orcas hunting throughout the Sea of Cortez.
Again and again, they gave us opportunities to slip into the water and share unforgettable moments with them. Watching these incredible predators work together, then disappearing into the blue returning with food, before resurfacing, was nothing short of magical. The encounters just kept coming, and every time we climbed back into the boat, we couldn't stop smiling.
It was one of those rare days that reminds you why you spend countless hours searching the ocean. The orcas were on fire, the encounters were unforgettable, and we couldn't have asked for a better way to end an incredible week. It was the stuff of dreams.
Episode 75. Week 4, Day 6.
The Reality of the Wild
Week four came to a close, and nature reminded us that not every week is filled with whales and orcas. It was a slower stretch on the water, but that's part of exploring a truly wild place. While we didn't encounter the larger megafauna this week, we still enjoyed a wonderful variety of marine life, including several species of dolphins, manta rays, and countless moments that make every day at sea worthwhile.
One of the best decisions our guests made was joining us for two weeks instead of one. The incredible orca encounters and unforgettable experiences from the previous week gave them the complete Baja story… the highs, the slower days, and everything in between. That's what makes these expeditions so special. You never know what the ocean will give you, but when you spend enough time with her, the rewards are often beyond anything you could have imagined.
Episode 76. Week 5, Day 2.
Our time in Baja today brought a marathon search for orcas. After covering more than 150 miles across the Sea of Cortez, we finally caught up with the pod late in the day, proving that patience and perseverance are often rewarded in the wild.
Wild Minute Episode 77. Week 5, Day 6.
Thirty days at sea. Five unforgettable weeks. Countless memories.
Our final day in Baja wasn't about chasing one last incredible encounter. Instead, it was about appreciating all the little moments that make this expedition so special… the friendships formed aboard the boat, the laughter shared between adventures, the quiet beauty of the Sea of Cortez, and the privilege of spending another season immersed in the wild.
As this journey comes to an end, I wanted to take a moment to thank every single person who joined me. Your enthusiasm, patience, kindness, and love for wildlife are what make these expeditions so meaningful. Together, we experienced incredible highs, embraced the slower days, and created memories that will stay with us for a lifetime.
I put together a small collection of moments from our time together because, in the end, this adventure was never just about Baja’s Wildlife. It was about the people who shared the journey.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for trusting me to be part of your adventure. I love and appreciate every one of you, and I hope our paths cross again somewhere out there in the wild.
Until next season.
