This was our first trip to Churchill in the winter time. We visit Churchill during the summer months for beluga whales and summer polar bears, but the goal of this trip was to photograph bears in the snow, before the ice formed on the Churchill river and the bears were gone for the season. We timed our visit perfectly and arrived just as the snow season began.

Our first full day on the Tundra there was no snow on the ground yet, but a snow storm blew in the first evening and we woke to a beautiful winter wonderland…

We encountered, wolves (from a distance), foxes, ptarmigans, Arctic hares and of course bears. This was such an amazing trip, I hated to leave. I went thinking I was only going to do this for one season, and get snow bears out of my system, but it was such an amazing experience I have to go back. So we set up a trip for next year as well.
