Baja, Mexico
7 day expedition / 5 days swimming with orcas
May 17 - 23, 2020

We are headed to the warm waters off Baja, Mexico to seek out pods of wild orcas. For years, we have known about a resident pod of orcas that lives and hunts in the waters off Baja. Sightings of these great animals, now reputed to be about 50 individuals living in these waters, has been hit and miss. However, in recent years, sightings are becoming a bit more reliable - these orcas have been spending some of their time, during the peak mobula ray season hunting the coastal waters of Baja. In May of 2018, our host operator encountered them on 12 different occasions during this prime season. The images and videos they returned with, set our soul on fire and we have decided to set up an exploratory trip to seek them out in May of 2019. During our May expedition, the orcas were spotted 3 times, we were lucky enough to find them once. We found them and spent two hours in the water with these animals. It was easily one of our best days in the water…ever.

These are day trips (snorkel encounters)... We are inviting 6 people to join us for the 2020 exploratory expedition.  There are no guarantees that we will find the orcas, because we know, first hand it is a difficult task finding wild orcas in the open ocean. However, our host operator, is good at finding these animals, AND along with the local knowledge of where the orcas are, we will also be hiring a spotter plane to help us locate these very elusive animals.

Day 1; We pick you up at the San Jose del Cabo International Airport (SJD), between 12-1PM. We drive you to the hotel, (hotel and expedition location is decided upon, the day before the trip begins). after we check you in, the rest of the afternoon is yours to prep cameras,  and gear. We will get together at 7PM in hotel lobby to discuss the morning plans. The rest of the evening is yours to rest or explore the town.

Day 2 - 6* - Every morning we will head out in search of orcas. Please note; we know that orcas are the priority, however, if we see or encounter, humpback whales, sperm whales, or fin back whales, we will try and jump in with them as well. We may also jump in with the schooling mobula rays, mola molas, dolphins or sharks.

*PLEASE NOTE - Everyday is different, because we are using a spotter plane, and information from the local fishermen who are daily out on the water, to try and find the orcas, so we will be extremely flexible with our daily starting points. With the help of these local resources in the area - where we leave from each morning, will depend on where the orcas are spending their day at, because they move around a lot.  So once we get the call, we will jump in the vehicle and drive in whatever direction our operator advises us, that the orcas will potentially be at.

Day 7 - We help you check out of your hotel and drive you to the airport for your journey home.
