THE ADVENTURE
Join us for an extraordinary expedition to the only place on Earth where sperm whales live year-round in the crystal-clear waters of Dominica.
With special government permits, we get the rare privilege of snorkeling with them… just us and these incredible animals in their world.
It’s an experience so rare, so raw, that words barely do it justice.
But sperm whales aren’t the only ocean giants you may encounter...
Dominica also attract a variety of apex predators, including pilot whales, false killer whales, and melon-headed whales.
Every day on the water holds the potential for something truly magical.

TRIP ITINERARY
Day 1
ARRIVAL DAY
You arrive at the Dominica Airport (DOM). A taxi driver (the hotel can arrange one for you), will pick you up at the airport. They will take you to our hotel, by the seaside town of Roseau. It is an hour drive (if you get motion sickness, take a pill, the winding mountain roads might make you queasy).
Once you arrive, we will help you check in. The rest of the afternoon is yours to relax, explore and prep gear. We meet at 6:30PM to discuss the morning plans.
Day 2 - 6 (5 days)
DIVE DAYS
We start early. These are day trips, so we will head out every morning (weather dependent) and search for sperm whales.
These are long days at sea in search of these whales, we spend an average of 6 hours out at sea.
Everyday is different - some days we may find them early, other days it might take all day.
We use hydrophones to help locate the whales.
Day 7
TRAVEL HOME
You return to the airport for your journey home. Your departure time will depend on when you schedule your return flights.
The main airport is Douglas-Charles (DOM). There are direct flights from Miami, Fl. to Douglas-Charles (DOM) via American Airlines.

Please note that these expeditions involve wild animal encounters, and while there is never any guarantee of sighting wildlife, we strategically plan our visits during the best times of the year for the greatest chances of success.
In Dominica, the whales are protected, and engaging in water activities with them requires a government permit.
This measure is in place to ensure the conservation and well-being of these magnificent creatures.
We want to highlight that touching whales is strictly NOT permitted.
Every encounter is unique, and the duration is solely at the discretion of the animals.
Participants caught manhandling wildlife may be asked to leave the water or the area.
It's essential to maintain a safe distance and show utmost respect towards wildlife.
*PLEASE NOTE: if the animal is not interested in interacting with us or shows signs of stress, we will leave the animal alone and go find other whales to encounter.
YOUR SAFETY AND THE WELL-BEING OF THE ANIMALS ARE OUR TOP PRIORITIES.
Our team is committed to providing you with a respectful and regulated encounter with the protected whales in the waters of Dominica. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in preserving the beauty of the wildlife and their environment.

We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance to protect yourself in the event you must cancel.
Cancellation terms are as follows:

A refund will be issued minus the trip deposit, which is non-refundable and non-transferable. If we are able to fill your space after you cancel, we will apply your deposit toward another SDM Adventures trip booked within the following 12 months.
